|

As part of my complete rebuild of my KG, I am currently rebuilding the steering box. The steering of the car was pretty good though it leaked at the lower seal. I was also surprised when I bought the car that there was NO play at the steering wheel
Today with box mounted on vice and before I dismantled it, i noticed that at center position there was a sort of notchiness as I turned the coupler and worm thru the center position, I could distinctly feel that. I also noticed that the steering was much tighter in the center and freer on the ends of its travel.
I now have it all apart. Nothing stands out. There was no excessive axial play in the roller. How do I tell if the bearings need to be replaced? Also, there is a bit of play at the top cover bushing. Is that acceptable? What is the limit? How do I measure that?
Thx,
