Looking for info on these bumper guards. The guards are pictured in "356 Guide to Authenticity". These guards are for "Body Bumpers"; actually look similar to the guards on prototype type KDF cars. Anyone have any info?
Already tried the "356 Registry", very disappointing as usual.
The "Tail" is being trial fitted, please excuse incorrect items, lack of blinkers and alignment.
Best Regards,
Al |

How are they attached? Bolt with welded nut, or welded plate with welded nuts for two bolts? And after that, the real quesiton is whether they came with the car, and fit the contour of the bumper and trim strip exactly. If there are gaps,...it gets suspicious. If they fit right up without you having to grind to close gaps,...you may have something there. As you know,...there are no absolutes with the early cars. You can usually "just tell" if something is right or not, by the way it fits, and/or the tell tale scars of installation and fitment as original. What's the story on these? Did they come with the "Box-O-Stuff" that often comes with a car? _________________ Steve Harrison |

Al,
I have never seen these guards in person but they are shown on a body bumper cabriolet (probably a '51) in the January 1952 issue of Auto Speed and Sport magazine. The article is also reprinted in the Brooklands book "Porsche cars 1952-1956" The guards shown on that car appear to be identical to the guards you have. I suspect they were only used on late body bumper cars delivered in the U.S. The guards used on the interim bumper cars are different.

Hello Alan,
Thank You for the reply. The guards came to me to me by friends, two guards from orange county; two guards from the valley. No boxes of parts.
The guards fit very close with the bumpers.
Best Regards,
Al |

This might be the same car that Alan is describing above, but Brett Johnson's article in Registry Magzine Vol18 #6 p13 shows Ted Dixon's 1951 Glaser cabriolet with these bumper guards. Here's a link to the pdf:
