I can say that, for the gas gauge at least, it's likely the sender. I ended up replacing my tank the other day and my new (used) tank came with a new(used) sender. And where I used to run dry with my gauge reading 1/4 tank, I can now go well into the red before a fillup! Hooray!
And i've got my seats covered with a set of fuzzy "llama fur" seat covers that fit well and appear to be generic "flaps" style covers. If that's what you were thinking of. |

I've seen volvo seats in a baywindow, but I can't remember what year it was, or if the guy did anything to the tracks or not. You could measure the tracks, then tack a tape measure to a junkyard. Jeremy |

Your gage problem is most likely the voltage stabiliser which is a small replaceable chip in the instrument clustre printed circuit board. It's about a $10 part. Buy, beg, or borrow a Bentley manual. It'll show you what to do. |

I was thinkin' something of the sort. Those gauges sit right next to each other, it would almost seem if they are both failed that you have a grounding issue or something going on with that hokey blue circuit card that graces the back of the cluster. If it is that voltage stabilizer, (I don't have my manual with me to reference), I believe that it is pretty easy to change, don't take me to seriously, but I believe you can just solder a new one on. |

It doesn't even require solder. It just slips in to the recepticle and is held in place by a screw. |

Re. seatcovers
A few years back Sewfine in Colorado made some nice Vanagon front seat covers for me. I specified a vinyl for the backs and cloth for the front part of the seat. They also made matching vinyl armrest covers for me.
At the time they did not have any Vanagon seat covers so I sent them my foam seat pads so they could make a pattern. I installed the seat covers myself and they fit great and have held up very well (5+ years).
I used '84ish seats with non-adjustable armrests in my '81 Westy. I sent them the seat bottoms for the '81 and '84 seats (the '84s are slightly longer and more comfy) so they could make patterns for both. I think the most recent catalog I got from them had a full range of Vanagon seat covers and carpet kits listed.
I'm pretty sure that all years of Vanagon seats are interchangeable.
