Hello all,
I'm doing my wire harnesses now, and would like to know what you all use to attach the harness to the body? I really don't want to drill holes in a body I just finished filling and fixing what seemed to be hundreds of holes. Would silcone "glue" it to the body? Any suggestions and comments welcome.

You could fiberglass in some PVC tubing under the fenders to run the wires through?

Thanks Weasel for the reply. However it looks as if I didn't explain things correctly. The wires are already in the coregated flexible plastic tubes you can get online. I'm looking for ways to secure the tubes to the underside of the body. Especially across the backend.

Glass the flex tube in..... I ran flex to right rear corner for main (rear) harness and a couple of pieces on 1/2 inch PVC pipe across the back of get to center license plate light and left rear tail light... (note square 1 in picture)
Note you can use ADEL clamps and they not be visible if you are careful...
Silicon will break down over time and have to be repaired/replaced..... Glassing will be messy job, but will be there forever.... _________________ “Fear The Government That Wants To Take Your Guns"

These don't work on rough fiberglass, but do well on smooth surfaces. I use only name brand ones for this and 1 inch size if possible. If you can find these without the adhesive backing you could likely attach them to fiberglass with a 2 part urethane adhesive. _________________

When I first built my buggy I used plumbers pipe hanger steel strapping and JB Welded it along the underside of the body.
I just scuffed up the fiberglass a bit and then mixed a batch of J.B. Weld and gobbed it on the the body and the strap. After it set up I ran the harness along side the strap and zip tied it to the strap.
It lasted a long time. I did have to fix a couple of them after many years but by that time I had drilled holes on the side for other reasons and I just incorporated those bolts into a new hanger for the harness.
Back then I knew nothing about wiring or building a buggy and used what was available locally. Wires were all 14 ga whether it was needed or not so the harness was bigger and heavier than it could be.
I've learned a lot over those years and have changed or upgraded most everything in that time period. _________________

Hi Folks. I used different sized cable stays then cable tied the harness to them. They have an adhesive backing but they will eventually fall off from heat and exposure to weather. As a more permanent solution I peeled off the adhesive backing and JB Welded them to the body. You could also use a Silicone adhesive as well. It's neat, tidy and best of all no extra holes need to be drilled.I have since removed the plastic sheath and will be replacing it with heat shrink. I hope this helps out. Good luck and have fun.

Thanks to all with suggestions. Although I don't want to (I thought I was done with glassing), and Dale, you're right, it will be messy, it does appear to be the permanent solution. Dale, did you flip the body and do it, or attacked it from the bottom?

I crawl'd under and used a small paint brush to spread a layer of fairly thick (old) polyester resin (with hardener) on a small area. Then placed a 2~3" wide strip of fiberglass cloth on the sticky area, and used the paint brush to lay in more resin over the mat. Next, I roll'd the strip around a plastic core from a roll of cash register paper (my girlfriend at the time, 1976, had a couple dozen of them and I used them all; and every one's still in place after 46 years of nearly daily driving). Finally, I carefully threaded each wire thru the webbing inside the plastic roll. Ground wire is the heavy gauge black wire, it goes thru center.

Goodtunes, I thought of the paper roll as a form as well. Probably the way I'll go. Just lay down lots of paper on the floor!

Hi Pajero,
And if I wanted to try these, where can I buy them? |

Pajero,
A couple of questions. As far as the adhesive used, is it typical double stick tale, glue, what? How long have yours been in use? Have you had any issues with the tie anchor becoming unglued/taped?

They're glued, and if mixed right they won't come off barring excessive force. The only two I had to redo, were because I didn't mix correctly.
