After Just reading through aam76 thread http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=539336&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
of his 65 convert he mentioned there should be a 65 - 66 vert thread so here goes
here is my offering to get thread started.
I have just acquired this Original UK right hand drive Java Green 65.
[/img]
Bug has had a full body off resto approx 10 years ago
includes mohair hood all new seals/ original early 4.5 and 5.5 Porsche fuch with Michelin zx tyres, nos vw spot lights and much more since then it has covered probably 700miles and then was parked up in his garage for about 7 years until now,
I have replaced fuel lines had to replace the fuel tank as a few holes had rusted through, new brake fluid serviced 1200 engine, replaced ignition switch and new battery , I am currently cleaning and polishing it up back to it former glory. have spent probably best part of a day trying to get the window frames and rubbers lined correctly as they were annoying me,
unfortunately not to keen on the tmi interior as it should be grey the original door cards and seat covers are with it but don't think I will get them clean enough to go back in .
just waiting for some decent weather now if we ever get any here in the uk to enjoy it and take some decent photos |

The beginning - bringing it home - October 2013
Since bringing it home - new generator, clutch, muffler, nose cone/sealed transmission leaks, electrical now works, axle boots, engine seals, flywheel, starter, shift coupler, shifter bushing, rear brakes among a few other things. Plan on doing some cosmetic stuff over the spring/summer/fall - stuff that won't take it out of commission for any length of time until winter rolls around again. |

DAB72 - needs a new top and hardware. I've got to fix the passenger side windows and then I'll have a new top installed. I've been debating on who I want to do the top - been thinking about Chuck's but I'd have to ship it there and back. The front apron is crinkled and I've got a want ad placed here in the Samba for the clip from the front of the gas tank forward. Also need new pans. The list continues..... |

Early last year when I came to learn that I would be acquiring a ’66 convertible, I immediately searched for a 65-66 convertible thread. For some reason, I couldn’t find one, but unbeknownst to me, there was one, but it was hiding from me, deep in the 58-67 archives.
So while I’d been pondering the prospect of starting one for quite a while, I’d been searching for all things “convertible” in the 58-67 threads, and eventually I stumbled upon it! Sadly, it was hardly half a page and hadn’t been touched in 10+ years. How sad is that? Well thanks to DAB72 out of the UK for starting it in the first place.
So here it is, resurrected, and I asked Everett add it to the list of Beetle Year-specific / Registry Topics in the 58-67 stickies, so now it should be easier for anyone to find.
I know from my own interests and curiosity for these two model years that we need a better, more concentrated resource for them, if not for more technical subjects, then at least for visual references and a place to collect a small history of some of the 65-66 convertibles that are circulating out there.
I plan to rekindle this thread and keep it more active and make it a better resource, and hopefully people will start adding more to it. I will also be adding relevant technical posts linked from other threads that include valuable reference information. For example, VOLKSWAGNUT is a valuable resource who makes many different posts with important information for the 65-65 convertibles, but they’re often hidden in threads about other years of cars. These techy tidbits can be extracted and linked in the 65 - 66-only ‘vert thread for quick retrieval by those who can use it here.
I also want to add members’ projects and link to their builds – hopefully no one will take offense, but we can use your experiences and photos to assist in our own projects. _________________ My name's Steve and it's pronounced "Bust 'em" (cuz people think I'm Tom)

So here’s my new girl, a Poppy Red '66 out of Sacramento. I will be starting a thread on this one soon, with the whole backstory behind my acquisition of it. This car was first sold at Mill Valley Volkswagen in the North Bay, moved around northern California a bit, and even did some time up in Oregon. Suffice to say it's going to be with me for the foreseeable future.
Loaded up in Sac and ready to come home this past May...
Sitting in my yard, pretending she runs!
After bolting some parts on and pulling the top frame up...

Hey DAB, wow, she's a beauty for sure! Shame she had to go. I don't know about your case, but convertibles can be a bit of a burden, they really do need to be kept inside, and if you can't justify the space, they gotta go, I know firsthand.
Hopefully she's been preserved, and thanks for posting gallery photos of it so they're preserved for future generations to see here. _________________ My name's Steve and it's pronounced "Bust 'em" (cuz people think I'm Tom)
