I will be in San Diego Ca. every other week all summer long and would like to meet some shop owners or maybe just some VW people there. My bug is not up and running so I need to pick brains to get ideas on what I can do and shouldn't do to it.
Thanks

What part of SD will you be in? When I lived in Serra Mesa it was just a quick ride down the 15 to Vee Parts in National City. I haven't lived there for about 4 years now and can't attest to the current state of the shop, but they always had a good supply of stock parts on hand and the guys were pretty cool and knowledgeable. They were also open for a bit on Sundays, which saved my bacon more than once! There was also a shop in La Mesa that I went to a couple of times run by an old school dude (Rudy I think?), but I didn't much care for the place.
If you're going to be in or heading through North County, J Bugs in Oceanside is a decent option. They used to have a cool little shop on Oceanside Blvd but they moved into an industrial building a few years ago, so I'd recommend going on their website and compiling a list with part numbers before you go in to save yourself a bit of time. |

Esther I suggest looking through the community section. Spring is here and many of the local clubs have their weekly hangouts in various spots throughout the county. San Diego has a great VW community and worth checking out. Plenty of people to talk story, get ideas, and plan for your car. Good luck _________________ I love Jesus |

I like buggy works in lakeside. Had some machine work done there recently and they did a really nice job. The owners used to work for Johnson's bug machine years ago. Many years of experience and willing to share info. I have also been to rudys. He has lots of parts but lacks in everything else. I don't recommend him personally but that's me. I spend a lot of spare time reading forums here and have gained a wealth of knowledge in my own home. _________________
