Heard of a kit in the 80's from Brasil, never seen one but only heard it from the rumor mills. Either way noone makes them now. Seen a few that has been converted, there's a rally bug that's for sale with a AWD setup. When I mean conversions I mean stock rear engine location with custom/modified tranny and donor front drivetrain, etc (not a bug body bolted on a modern AWD frame).

Vw bodies on 4x4 chassis ? Might as well not even call it a vw. Lotta people use Suzuki Samurai as the chassis, some use jeeps. I can only imagine what a real 4x4 vw is capable of Twisted Evil As far as the real ones (the ones made in the war) I think they made no more than 30,000 but it could be less, not sure. Ive seen one in town, passed by it a couple times on my bike. Lots of clearance !..........

The rally bug was for sale for around $7k range. More than reasonable, he's building another AWD bug and need $$ to fund the new project. You may look into a quaif front tranny setup with a Porsche 924 tranny in the rear.

Who needs 4X? Bajas/VWs go just about ANYWHERE!!! Shocked Laughing Surprised
I've seen Bajas pass stuck 4Xs and keep going, really pisses off the guy that has tons of money poured into that money pit called a 4X.

Those 30 000 or so were probably 2WD Kübelwagens (T-82) and Kommandeurwagens (T-82E). The only 4wd wartime VW's were Schwimmwagens (T-166)and a very few Geländewagens (T-87)

Here is one T-87 (4wd)
