I was wondering if my split needs a handbrake cover, the rubber one.
I have a early Jan 1950 Standard. From reading around I see that the handbrake cover started sometime in 1951?
Just wondering

My October '51 has one although progressive refinements says it came in '52 I think.

SO according to PR I shouldnt have one, and I do.
There is nothing to cover the handbrake mechanism in my 50 to be correct?
Does anybody need a nice handbrake cover, original in very nice condition?

VW book "Besser Fahren mit dem VW" year 1950 says:
Handbrake cover
Refinements date February 1950
Assembly by request
Dealer supplies by request a cover for handbrake lever |

on one of my old vw files for standard bug (dated 1952 on the plateforme side cut cables brakes pages) the rubber cover is represented. My june 52 standard add one on.

I have seen that repro parts have not that leather-like surface, they are smooth. |

I shure that this hand brake boot is not a repro, I took it off back in 2000 went I got the car. Repro is rather recent accessorry from what I know.

My guess is that is a late version of that boot. It is probably very rare as well. The next version that was on ovals and all other versions after it had the pebble grain finish. _________________ Chris

That is what I am talking about. I always assumed that the pebble grain was introduced on that cover but apparently it was introduced on the split cover towards the end of it's production.
Mine does not have the pebble grain but is smooth like in John's picture. _________________ Chris

I agree with that Chris, pebble grain was introduced only on late splitwindows production, but was it available serial on all model's, I'm not shure, what I've been told is that before late 51's only luxe and export where with smooth boot none on standard and since end of 51 till zwitter (and even on zwitter's) boot was available on all models with pebble grain

I have an embossed (raised) number "428" under mine. No R or k. _________________ John Henry

I just sold one of the NOS ones I had in the classifieds. It lasted all of about 2 hours I think. Keep your radar on...... _________________ John Henry

i was asking about repro version just because that is a premium sought after part, and a reproduction could suit my split well. of course, repro price should be way less than for an original used or nos boot... _________________ 1960 1200 model 117 deluxe ragtop

I’m interested peoples latest opinion of what years theses parking brake boots were offered and also interested in opinions of theses reproduction boots compared to original
I myself was surprised with the textured appearance of the brown boot , is original like this ?
