Does anyone have a template or pictures of how to support a window AC while at a campsite? I want to do it as right as possible so as to not scratch anything up or drop the unit. Any suggestions would be appreciated. _________________ 1969 Beetle

Coincidentally I just tested a prototype A/C support this past weekend on a three day camp out.
Kinda hard to describe, but I'll try. There is a small piece of plywood that acts as a shelf and in the picture you can just see the bracket/hanger things I used (plywood is on top of the brackets). The bracket sides that hook to the window opening are rubber coated and didn't scratch the paint at all. The other ends (you can just see them under the A/C) hook together and the hook end of the straps connect to them and that holds everything in place. Also on the plywood there is some foam attached so that it seals a bit better and softens the weight of the A/C unit. I used self adhesive magnetic "tape" to secure the surround insulation.
This picture was when I was just test fitting last week. It sat much more level when in use. I can snap some more pictures if you like.

The best one I have seen uses a piece of wire shelf and two supports off the gutter to hold the shelf up...pieces of foam filled in around the "open " window
The guy with the red and white 4 wheel drive bus made it
Fit the clothes hanger part of the shelf over the window glass
the shelf supports had adjustable screw links in them
put clear plastic tubing over the gutter hooks
I searched Air Conditioners and got three pages of info; I found this phot to give you ideas...Take out the wood support and hang 1/4 inch threaded rod off gutters

OK I know that I live at the beach in Maine (aka "Vacationland"), but it is really required to have AC to sleep with while camping? Even down south?
I can understand a 12 volt fan that could move some air around during slumber, but we do call it camping for a reason. |

My set-up was free, so I thought it would be fun to try out.
Plus, when I already have a fold out bed, sink, closet/cabinets, gas stove, etc., it's already pretty far from actual camping. _________________ 1976 Westy

Thanks to all that responded. I figured I'd get some grief but I figured I'd ask anyway . I saw ^^^^, it looks nice but I'm also kinda cheap. If I could fabricate something as good for free-ish I would.
In the photos, is the ac sitting directly on the glass? I'm worried about it cracking. Any pictures of what/how the ac sits on would be helpful. _________________ 1969 Beetle

This is the method I used. Our A/C is BIG (it was free) so it barely fits in the window opening and its pretty heavy for me to lift (I'm 6'2"-300 lbs).
For supports, I used rubber coated stainless wire with stainless hooks connected to each end. One end hooks on the gutters, the other is pinched around the shelf so I don't lose them. _________________ "In any racing engine, the nearer you are to it disintegrating, the better it's performance will be"
