one of two bolts on my towel bar froze and snapped. before drilling out the remains i tapped a starting point with a drift to keep the bit steady. while doing so i lost the hidden nut. any suggestions for an anchor or related hardware maneuver to salvage this otherwise decent bumper part? |

easy way without welding or cutting. Install a riv-nut. |

The bumper bolts on bumpers in our climate often break if you just undo them. I usually use a torch to heat up the bolts holding the bumper together, then quench them.
PITA to drill them out, I hate breaking them. I apply grease or anti-seize to the threads when assembling, so I can take it apart later if needed.
Hope that helps for the rest of the bumper. |

Although labor intensive, you can cut a wide pie piece tangent to the inner hole having it end right at both brazes. Save that piece, extract your old one and have it brazed to the pie wedge and then brazed back to the cut-away. Or you can weld a bolt to the pie wedge and have the threaded end protrude into your bumper and crescent then braze that back to the cut-away. Be careful with too much heat or the angle-of-the-dangle will move a little. |

Way better idea, for sure! I didn't know how far the lip interfered but there's definitely room. Zero paint damage and maybe an occasional weird rattle. |

That happened to me too. I was going to hold the snapped off nut with some silicon, but just tapped the holes a little bigger on the towel bar and used bigger bolts. The nut is loose in there, but I don't hear it rattling while driving.
I actually forgot about it until seeing this thread... I was going to use rivnuts, but they didn't have them at Ace and I wanted to put it back on, so went with the bigger bolts... _________________ -Adam
