So I have made is this far with a dremel burr. I don't have a die grinder. But don't think dremel makes longer bits.

What stages of bits do you use.

Tube burr
Cone burr

Also I have found a replacement transmission IRS but not sure if it will work. Only diffrance I found was the two drains rather than one drain.

2 drains mean it is a 69 model trans, probably start with "AH" code. Also has early pinion bearing. 70 model started 1 drain plug, late pinion bearing, and early crosshaft, the ratios are the same. 4.12 r/p with 3.8, 2.06, 1.26, ,89 stack

Mcmscott thanks for reply but you should have smacked me and told me to go back to the car port. So I've already swapped nose cones from the 1 drain tranny to the two drain. Forgot the years you just told me. The front mounts were broke. Then went to swap throw outs and had the light bulb whoa yea there different.

Will swapping nose cones make an issue. I will have to get a new throw out bearing now. But will the nose cones be ok. Hockey sticks seam to be the same.

If the m/s bearings are the same then you are ok, if not you need to clearence the nose cone

M/S bearing?

Tranny code IRS AH1610345

AH 1500 4.125 IRS suspension from 8/68
AH 1600 4.125 8/69-8/72

Main spline shaft has back and forth play in it.

The dremel company did not make carbide burrs, now they make only small 1/8 diameter one piece ones, which are junk IMO. They break too easy.

Other companies make longer carbide burrs with steel shank and about 1/4" carbide heads. They work great. I've had two of them that have lasted about four dremels. I think dremel sees no profit margin in selling things that never wear out.

The cheap 2 speed dremel is not QUITE powerful enough to run a 1/4" burr but I run them on 160 volts with a variac. That perks em' up.

"modok" your a bit of a wild man! 160 Volts on a Dremel Motor!

There is another option on the transaxle that involves getting this kit!

Very Happy Yes! Either upgrade the transmission to the late style shaft etc or go to the early style pressure plate and throw-out bearing. Clutches - what pressure plate with what throwout bearing. Throw-Out bearing conversion Up-Grade (early to late kit.

Thanks for the links I should have made this two topics but...I didn't. Well I figure I'm going to look for a different transmission. Now that I'm in a pickle I don't have money to swap bearing or clutch parts. But I sure didn't know someone makes an in between kit. Also didn't know about the plates, I knew there were different bearings.

Off to find some bits and a free transmission

Could I use a super beetle transmisson, in a 69 frame? I've heard there's an adapter but I haven't found one.
