Hi,

I've been living in my van for the past 2 months and its been pretty great so far. It has been fair weather here in the pnw but as of just yesterday I was changing my sheets on my mattress and noticed a bit of build up of water around the middle of my mattress. it rained last night and this morning but I know I have zero leaks in my van.

Wondering if this is a common issue with camping in a van long term. I think I'm going to build a frame underneath the foam mattress so it can get some air flow.

has anyone else dealt with this issue?
dehumidify even worth it?

Thanks!

It's a tough fight, I use to live on a boat and had to deal with it. Something like DryBunk or HyperVent helps. I like the thickness of hypervent because it creates a pretty good air space.

Boating forums are rich with info on the topic, especially liveaboard discussions or people cruise in tropical climates.

Here is a link for Hypervent https://www.fisheriessupply.com/hypervent-hypervent-mattress-pads-39-50

I wonder how much a eberspacher or webasto going in vent mode would help with humidity when it's raining?

Do some research on You Tube for dealing with RV Humidity.
I know there is one boring teaching a "class" type video which is really very good for info.
You need to keep your windows open to provide an air vent or the condensation from your own body heat will start the rust cycle on the inside of the body.
This is where those plastic rain shields for the front door windows work in the rain environment.
A usb powered fan to keep air circulating helps provided you have usb outlet installed.

Wait till you get older. It happens more often. There are many reasons, and which one it is just Depends.

There is a reason box springs and slats have been used on beds for ages. Other alternatives are to turn the mattress daily and/or have an insulating pad under the mattress so that the moisture doesn't cool enough to condense.

Not sure its been asked, but does in your van also include driving it around some? Do you have an Air Conditioner that you run while driving, if so? Easy target for water like that would be from the AC having plugged drains.

Zero ac. I did have my girlfriend sleeping with me this last weekend when I first found the water so I'm thinking it might be from two bodies being in a small space. Still going to build a box frame underneath. I drive it daily just to work and back which ia like a 10 min commute
