I've done some google searches and can't find anything that's as deep as this one that I've got, or got the metal ring that runs round the outside.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Someone broke it and that ring was their fix?

That's what i was thinking, the spring is a door & window winder spring.
It's an early one, here is one from my Aug 9 1955 vert (56 Model)

Thanks for this guys. What a shame its been botched back together again. I did think it looked a bit weird!

Good spot on the door handle/winder spring as well Smile
