The pictures may be very interesting, but the marking on the envelope is puzzling, if not downright false. The Volkswagen, according to sources like Chris Barber, was called the Volkswagen until May 15, 1938. During the groundbreaking ceremony at Fallersleben, AH announced that the car would be sold as the KdF wagen. So, the KdF name was not connected to the VW beetle before that. By the way, it does not really say KdF on the envelope, does it.

Second, the final body as we know it, was not ready as a mock up, untill december 1937, and as a driving car by april / may 1938. That means that the date on the envelope does not correspond either. You should have the negatives scanned and made into positives, there could be some interesting detail there, anyway!

Any more info on where you (are they yours?) got the envelope and the negatives? Could it be that the original photographer had 2 sets of photo's in the envelope which were taken at different times: the ones from the KdF car (in 1938?) and some pics from the "Day of the German police and fire brigade practice" in 1937? I guess that back in those days you could easily do 1 or 2 years with one roll of film in your camera. Very interesting anyhow Very Happy !

How stupid is that? The pictures are dated in 1937 - but the first VW38 cars were build in 1938. The pictures are nice, but it sounds like someone will blame the buyer.

I don't see any problem. Imagine a old guy back in the 50's or 60's, handling his old souvenirs and things, found his old negatives and remebered himself beeing there "... when was it... ah it was 1937, and what was it... ah KDF Wagen... so it was and I was there... intresting..."

I just want to say, the dates of the envelopes where perhaps written at another time after the war, and and a false date was not a bad intention than rather a poor remembering.

Try to see it from the old person, not from the point of a VW-collector.

I say old person because of the hand writing. This style is definetly from a time before 70's

I do not see any contradiction.

The envelope says "Day of the German Police, Practise of fire department 17.1.1937". In NS Germany the day of the German Police was on the 16th and 17th of January 1937. These pictures would have police and the fire department excercising and not people crowing around a KdF-Wagen.

These pictures have nothing to do with a fire department drill, they show the KdF-Wagen in Perlberg, Germany, obviously in 1938.

The pictures from 1937 are not in the envelope, the pictures from 1938 are. I do not think they are fakes, millions of Germans took pictures of the new KdF-Wagens in 1938 and pictures surface all the time and are not that rare.
