Why do you think Mrs. Cusser left Iowa (Dubuque) and sought out my bed?

Currently, my '70 is getting treated to an engine and transmission rebuild. Hopefully it will be ready for some winter fun!
This was last winter...

Winter is hitting us hard. Yesterday it almost went down to 55F. I had to wear a long sleeve shirt, it was brutal.

I don't think we even reached 70 F here. So 5 F below average.

Sure it's nice that we don't have to store our bugs during the winter, I drive mine year round, but I sure wish we had more water. This drought sucks.

Sure does. But it needs to continue a while longer so people really learn...

Sad, but more truth than fiction in that statement.

"Learn"? Learn what?

They're still growing rice down by Sacramento--and that takes a lot of water.

Water in California is just a matter of who has the power to get what they want.

My prediction for this winter: we'll have 50 inches before April. And they will still say we're in a drought.

I have some friends in Des Moines that I go up to see from time to time (in fact I was just up there 2 weeks ago.) Made sure to get out of there though before all the snow hit-- because, for some reason, people in Iowa (and probably other snow-producing states) seem to think that because they live in a state that produces lots of snow, they are privvy to these secret driving tricks no one else knows that makes them perfectly safe to drive around in the stuff. Like, some magical tricks that ignore the laws of physics and suddenly it's like driving on a nice bright sunshiny summer day. I really have never seen anything else like it- it's almost like bragging. I can tell you NW Ark doesn't get a lot of the stuff on average, but we get enough where I've been FORCED to drive in it before, and I don't care what car I'm in even in a bug that's supposed to be known for getting around well in the stuff, I NEVER want to attempt it.
A year ago last Feb was the last time I went up there, and my friends and I went up to Minneapolis, and got stuck in the worst snow storm they've had there in as while--bad enough to shut the schools down--IN MINNEAPOLIS. I was terrified, and my friend just shrugged it off was like, "Well living in Iowa you learn to drive in the stuff" like it was a cool country jaunt on a summer day. Needless to say I saw at least 3-4 accidents and we barely missed being in another one as my friend who's an EXPERT driving in the stuff slid through several intersections- honking the horn as he did, as if others could stop if they heard him. Jesus Christ. To the OP, this is in NO way a slight against you or your state- just an observation of a particular attitude that I wonder how many folks up there share.

OK, end of rant.

P.S. I bought my second favorite car of all time, a rare Honda Accord 4 door sedan with a V6 and 6 speed manual, from Randy Kuehl Honda in Cedar Rapids. Just happened to be up there in Des Moines several years ago and saw it advertised on Autotrader, and said "You know, I think it's time for a new car." One of the best, nicest dealerships I have ever had the pleasure to work with.
