Hi All
Technical question here.
Since completing the 63 rebuild i have replaced the gearbox input shaft seal twice but it still leaks, looking at the parts manual p/n 111307113C should be the correct part.
The only p/n i can find is the later one 113311113A, What are the differences if any?
Also, does any one know when the gasket on early flywheel to crank mating joint, changed from 113105279 (paper) to 113105279A (metal).
My parts book copy says to engine number xxxxxxx but does not say when metal gaskets started.
Any ideas? |

I had done some research on this issue earlier, the switch to metal gasket at the flywheel was very early, like in the middle of 1962.
You can cross-reference the engine number listed in the parts book to the production chart available above in the Technical section to find out roughly when that engine number was produced. _________________ 1965 Volkswagen 1500 Variant S

Ok thanks for the info, when i stripped my motor it had a metal gasket and didnt appear to have been previously apart, so i rebuilt it with a fresh metal gasket, just wanted to check it was correct. I think it is.
Cheers

Just from a probability standpoint it probably is; only the very earliest Type 3s would have had the paper gasket. _________________ 1965 Volkswagen 1500 Variant S
