ok here it goes
last night i was driving along
oil light came on, i pulled over ...everything was fine
half a mile later, oxs light and battery light are on
and im over heating
belt broke....this morning i replaced the belt...started her up....temp light is still coming on...
opened the pressurized tank...half empty....now im gonna fill it back up
i know all of this seems simple, but my questions are
i know the broken belt caused the overheat cause the water pump wasnt turning..but why did coolant leak out? (theres collant all over the back of my engine bay)
what is the best way to go about adding coolant?
cap off, engine running
engine off
overflow tank
do i need to mess with the bleeder, and if so where is it
thanks folks
btw i dont have any manuals on this van...with my next paycheck im getting a bentley and an owners manual
so for now im lost with guessing |

You've been introduced to vanagon gremlins, and it happened very fast
Usually they let you get over the new buyers bliss before they kick in, maybe it is some bad karma or something
Here is a link for coolant adding, flushing and bleeding.
http://www.benplace.com/bleeding.htm
When coolant gets excessively hot, it will expand and find a way out.
If the coolant in my tank gets down very low, I get the light also.
Hopefully a refill and a bleed will fix the problem. |
