I have been pondering this for a while and have not come up with any solutions yet.
1: when the charger is plugged into the battery, the cord reaches to the passenger side window. I am thinking of "mounting" the charger there, but I am not sure how to... Any suggestions??
And also...
2: should I be worried about charging the battery while it is under the backseat?
If anybody is curious, this is the charger I have:

Why not just pull the battery and charge it? _________________ 1970 Beetle |

I would want at least the charger to not be in the car or anywhere it could start a fire if it burned out or something! But that charger is not enough of a charger for a car battery! Yeah, it will keep a fully charged battery up but that's about it.
How long are you planning on going without driving the car? _________________ 1960 Beetle And 1679cc DP W-100 & Dual Zeniths! |

im not trying to completely charge the battery... I have a big charger for that. I just want to keep it maintained throughout the winter so it isn't dead in the spring. _________________ Beeble1, 1973 Super (o\_|_/o) 1600cc w/ Dealer A/C

Since I converted my Beetle into a street-strip car with IDA's, DOT slicks, etc, I pretty much park it for 4 months during the winter. Winter road salt and sand can destroy the body work!
I charge the battery every 6 weeks (3-4 times) during the course of the winter. I leave the battery in the Beetle all year round, but disconnect both straps for the winter or when charging at any time (this also protects the MSD electronics). _________________ Neil.

The best battery charger/trickle charger/desulfater I found is the battery minder. You can hook upto 6 cars. Long extension cords make it a snap to disconnect and connect.

My daughter got me a similar one from Sears, I use that on my lawn tractor. So the connections are always on the lawn tractor battery, I just plug it in. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each.
