I've searched and I can't find this, I know I've seen it on samba.

It is a listing cross referencing VW parts and Bosch ignition coil part numbers.

Can anyone link me to it? It may have been in a post.
Thanks

I am not sure if this will help, http://www.oldvolkshome.com/ignition.htm Scroll down and click on the year. On a side note, I finally installed the intake you refurbished for me last year. Looks and works great! Thanks Casey

Thanks for the link. I have that list. There is another I found directly referencing coil part numbers VW to Bosch. I was sure I'd saved it!

I'm glad the intake worked well for you. Nice to know.

Here's some images I've made of some coil part numbers and cross references.

And as for VW part numbers, the VW parts books aren't much help because they only show the current coils they were selling, which retrofitted any earlier coils. In 1960, that coil was 111 905 105 C. By the early 70s, the 6V coil was 111 905 105H and the 12V coil was 113 905 115 C, except for type 3/4 EFI engines, which used a 311 905 115 C.

I dug up some more cross reference data from 1971 and 1996:

What year might a black Bosch coil with: 0221 114 021 (311 905 115D) printed on it be?

If you have access to this part, there should be an additional 3 digit date code stamped somewhere in the vicinity of the part numbers. Here's a chart:

@glutamodo

great chart! Thank you for your reply.

Mine is a short coil. There is a 130 printed above the VW part #. Would this then mean it was appearing on bugs manufactured in OCT 1971? Could it also mean it would be seen in beetle engines considered as 1972 bugs?

Yes, a October 1971 part would fall into the 1972 model year of production.

Why did some Bosch black coils have the yellow oval sticker on whilst others have a light blue one? How do I know which to put on a coil that is missing one?

The blue colored coil is a Bosch High Performance coil that puts out about 1/3 more voltage than the stock black painted Bosch coil. It's an aftermarket high performance item and was NEVER installed at the factory.

So If you are after PURE STOCK, museum quality correct, then use a black coil and sell the blue coil to a guy who is hotrodding his Bug or buggy.

I mean that i've seen a VW black coil with a 12V 'Made in Germany' blue oval Bosch sticker and also a VW black coil with a yellow oval 12V 'Made in Germany' Bosch sticker, both stock.

Also I have seen the same two different stickers on VW stock black short coils.

My understanding, and I don't remember where I got this information from is that the blue sticker was affixed to black painted coils run on fuel injection type III applications.

The blue oval sticker came around '73 and maybe a little earlier. My original coil in my '74 Thing had a rectangle blue label. The change had to do with the age of the coil.

As said, the yellow vs blue sticker on the 12V black coil had to do with manufacturing date, Bosch just changed the color. But the blue oval sticker was availible earlier. I don't have an exact date, but somewhere late 60's.

This is a NOS "shorty" 0 221 114 006 12V coil (used for type 1, 2 and 3 as above). Manufactured November 1969 (911 date code). Edit: looking in sales brochures the blue sticker coil was in use at least from model year 68 (Aug 1967).
