Plastic Sleeve on New Throttle Cable?

I'm in the process of installing a new throttle cable in my '77. The new cable has a sleeve about 3" long with the part # printed on it. What's its purpose and where should I place it when installing the new cable?

it's a part number tag. identification purposes only. it doesn't matter where it goes when you install the cable. you could even cut it off if you wanted to.
