I recently picked up a 74 SB convertible. Looks good in my avatar, but its really a 10 footer. The convertible top is completely shot and the floorboards would be good for Fred and Wilma.

At any rate, I probably need to replace the top before the floorboards. I will mostly drive this with the top down but occasionally I will need it.

I have looked at the top installations...its a lot of work. I have done a bunch of British sport car tops, they are a cinch...not so with a VW... A local VW guy told me the plastic window aftermarket tops are much easier. I saw the one on M&T Manufacturing and it appears simpler, no headliner or padding it seems, plus the window is already installed. Frankly I hate plastic window tops (I have a MG TD, Nash Metropolitan and 90 Miata). This car is never going to be a trophy car though without a lot of work. So maybe it would be OK.

Any recommendations on simple tops like this? Anybody with experience with the M&T Manufacturing tops?

TIA, Bill

Chuck's in Virginia.

I let a pro handle my top back in 1980, and it's still OK. I park in a garage when not driving it.

I just drove it 45 minutes ago, but the top was down for the summer. And without a cell phone with me.

Thanks Cusser. Can't complain about a top lasting 40 years!

I looked at Chuck's (whom I've seen recommended here before) and didn't see a simple to install, plastic window type.

Anyone use this one (#1042ST)?

I don't see M&T mentioned much here but they also have 18Ga. Floorpans.
