If I were to guess I'd say you chuck up a camshaft in there and rotate it checking to see if it's straight. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

I have seen pictures of the first tool somewhere being used for checking run out on transmission mainshaft and for chucking a shaft with a clutch disc on it for checking disc run out.
it really could be used for checking runout on any shaft that will fit in it. Ray |
