OK, I am looking at maybe a 93 Eurovan MV or 90-91 Vanagon weekender.

Question: What seating arrangements were available with these? Also, I would like to have the folding table. Which models have these.

I am also confused about the pop tops. Were these made basically the same (seating, tables, etc..) with and without the pop tops?

Any other tips on these vehicles? I have read all there is to read at gowesty.com (great site). I know to avoid the auto trans. on the Eurovan and I think the head gasket thingy was worked out on the later Vanagons, right?

Gracias, John

Oh, yeah, and how about swivel seats? Can they be added?

From about 88 on VW started to play with the names of the "almost" camper models. Weekenders, Carat, Multivan, Wolfsburg weekender, etc.
A full Westfalia camper was always the same animal. The others were usually set up as follows: full width rear seat that folded into a bed, a fold out table, a removable cooler or cooler/sink. Most came with the pop-up roof, but you could order that interior in a non-pop-up van. Earlier models had a removeable center bench seat and could have swivle front buckets, later models had 2 rear facing jump seats behind the front seats instead.
Can't tell you about Eurovans, never touch that stuff.

Thanks, and here's some other info I gleaned from another sambaite:

Vanagon GL = Full rear bench seat, middle 2/3 bench seat, facing forward. No table, no pop top.
Vanagon Carat GL = seats and table as described above. No pop top.
Vanagon Multivan/Weekender = seats and table as described above, WITH pop top.
Vanagon Camper GL (Westfalia conversion) = 2/3 rear seat, no jump seats (some owners added one behind the passenger seat - but no factory mods to my knowledge), tables on posts - one behind the driver, the other to the streetside, beside rear seat. Front seats swivel (but moving the driver's seat is a real pain because of interference with the parking brake lever and the steering wheel). WITH pop top, obviously.

I am thinking of ruling out the Eurovans based on some input from the forums, also. Looks like trouble.

A little clarification:
GL - standard model w/ 2/3 middle bench, optional rear seat which folds out to a bed, I believe standard on 86+

Wolfsburg - rear-facing folding/removable jump seats instead of a 2/3 + flip up side table. Often had some fiberglass body moldings and other bits

Carat - same as a wolfsburg, but in later years

Camper - the base camper, often referred to as a 'weekender'. pop-top w/ rear side cabinet and rear top cabinet. Fixed rear facing seat behind the driver (the captain kirk chair) and a removable fridge unit behind the passenger

Camper GL - what everyone thinks of as a westy. pop w/ fridge, stove, side and rear cabinets. Many vanagon westys appear to 'lean' to the left a little because of age and all the weight!

MV - what I think to be the most desireable set-up, and what my carat may one day end up as. Basically, a carat interior + a poptop and the rear cabinets from a base camper. sweet!
