|
|
i'm using a KEP adapter plate to mate an AWP 1.8t to a syncro transmission. the KEP plate came with studs correctly sized for attaching the transmission to the adapter plate.
i like the idea that by using studs instead of bolts, the transmission is held in proper alignment as the engine and trans are slid together. however, i'm worried that if i use the studs, i will not be able to separate the engine and transmission in the vehicle if i have a need to do so in the future.
can anyone confirm if there is room to slide the engine rearwards far enough to clear the studs? i'd use a bolt for the long one that goes through the starter...

Having just dropped a 2WD trans in my driveway, I would not want to have studs up at the top. 2WD has way more room to work than a Syncro, and those top studs would still be a problem. If you had an easy way to alter the angle at the rear of the engine during the procedure, you might get away with it, but that fuel tank is tucked right up against the top of the trans. _________________ Casey--

I used a bolt on the starter, and mine is 2wd. I think the stud was too short in my case, but I don't remember exactly. _________________ 1985 Vanagon Westfalia 1.8t "Buelah"
