Hi all,

When disassembling my engine tins I noticed that there was some black sealant on a couple of the tins and where the tins attach to the fan housing.

Is this sealant necessary, and if so can anyone tell me what VW used ?

Many thanks

Mark

I am interested in what people have to say about this. My engine tin DOES NOT have any type of sealant at the seams. I have often wondered if there is supposed to be sealant at the seams...

If I have any spots where the tin doesn't fit well I will use RTV silicone to fill the gaps. I will smear the silicone out and let it tack well before installing so that it kind of forms a custom gasket that will be for the most part reusable.
