Thanks to a friend, mechanic, cruising buddy and fellow Samba member I just picked up a 1 owner 1966 square.
I received a message from Stan ( Stan's Classic Service in Natick MA) a couple days ago saying that a friend knew of a 1966 SB that the owner wanted to get rid of- so I gave the guy (Joe) a call and arranged to check it out.
Turns out the car was bought in Italy by the original owner and he had it shipped back to the states- it was loved and used daily by he and his wife until sometime in 1991 when they parked it and never drove it again- I asked why and they mentioned heat and AC as factors for moving on.
The bad
- It has spent a long time in New England and has rust in the usual locations
- Re-sprayed sometime in the 1980's over the original Delta Green
- Has not run since 1991 -(was told the motor was rebuilt around 100k) now sitting at 116K
The good
- it was 12 miles from my house
- Pretty complete car with very nice interior
- Nice un-craked dash
- comes with nice history and all paperwork from export from Italy
I am looking forward to getting this car running again and will do so slowly over this summer. I am in no rush as I do have my Notch to drive. As of now no other solid plan for the car (Kermit as I call it)
Thanks again Stan!

I have been trying to find a good steering wheel wrap like that forever. The one I found ripped as soon as I tried to squeeze it on the wheel. _________________ 1968 FI Squareback |

| Nice . Looks like it's all there . I can't say on the rust as long as it's not real bad and can be repaired without to much work . Still it does look like a nice car. |

Actually looks to be in very good shape for being in Mass.
Hell the few VWs I had in the 80's (last time I lived in Mass.) were beyond saving rusty |

Nice!
I don't know if I'll have my square done before mama Air Force relocates me in the fall, but if so it'd be fun to go cruising. |

Little update:
I pulled the carbs, rubber fuel lines were very brittle- drained all fluids and pulled the gas tank which has a bout an inch of sediment in it after removing 7.5 gallons of nasty gas from 1991. Looks like the Fuel line through the tunnel is clogged.
Looking for a replacement tank
Front end is pretty crusty

I'm in Hudson often if you see me in my Notch flag me down. I go to Medusa and Rail trail from time to time

Updates on the T-3, rust is repaired, going 2 tone, pearl white roof with delta green. Few things to finish, dual master upgrade, carpet, powder coat wheels, 1 carb is leaking few more holes in the floor. Figured I'd keep this story going.
