is there any way of finding out whether the motors in my fans are 6v or 12v. Not sure if the age of my split screen van as chassis number is not consistant with registration date - somewhere between 59 and 64

Are the fans factory to your bus? I'd bet if your rig is original enough to have factory installed fans- it's loaded with voltage-matched original electrics.

Also, most folks here can spot the difference between a '59 and a '64 at a distance of at least 1350 yards in good weather. Provide some pics and numbers and we can tell you what day it was built- let alone what year.

Most likely they are 6-volt for the simple reason that 12v motors are quite uncommon.

Have you looked at the backside? They have a sticker or stamping unless it wore off.

Pretty much any automotive 6 volt group 19 battery will be correct to test your fans
