What is part number 25 in this diagram of the VW fuel evaporation set up? (Near top right hand corner)
What does this do or what purpose does it serve?

It's a gravity valve, 111201751A or N0245281. My 1973 Super never had one, and I wonder if it was only used on Mexican Beetles.
