|
|
In the process of installing a new regulator on the left side and noticed that once the two top mounting plates (crank plate and aft top plate) is secured, the top horizontal tube of the regulator deflects into the path of the glass aft.
The inner door seems flush and the whole door fits well otherwise.
Should the entire top tube hug the inner panel of the door, fitting neatly under the inside lip bordering the glass path?
If so, can it be gently bent out of plane into that position without compromising the screw? Is that what's done?
Thanks very much for any help. Bentley has not been useful for this repair. |

The tubes should all lay flat, no inward or outward curves, did it get mashed in shipping perhaps?
Careful bending it back, a kink makes it useless. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Thanks.
Now that I look at it a bit closer, from the inside, there appears there could be a large-ish but shallow outward dent of the inner panel just below the visible, horizontal part of the doorframe, centered about 5 cm aft of the trailing frame of the wing window.
Unsure as to if this is design or damage, the plan is to take off the door panel on the other side tomorrow and see what is normal.
Any advice on trying to pull that back out if it's not design? |

Oh boy, dangerous territory if the outside of the door has nice paint. I'd use a long wide board aginst the inside of the outer skin and a jack or prybar and see if it moves, spreading out the load over a wide area on the part you don't want to bend is what matters here. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Okay. Determined the curve of the door was not aftermarket, so to speak.
Some mild, non-wormgear binding curving got the top of the regulator tucked up under the inside lip as expected.
Now, I have a window that descends easily but really seems to bind when being rolled up.
Once outside cools off to 90 degrees or so, I'll go out and give it another look. |

How's the rear vertical felt channel?, if it's worn the window can cock back on the way up and bind. You can try adjusting where the glass mounts to the lifter and see if it helps, or get in the habit of sitting your finger at the front of the glass and pushing down/forward gently as you roll it up, or you can lube or replace the felt.
I'd try the adjustment first, most have some oblong holes.
In regard to the inner door panel straightening I had another idea, a 2X6 across the inner face of the door and a giant sized C clamp to pull the door towards the board, the only trick would be finding a hole close enough to the damage to get the base of the C clamp through. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.
