Not mine but I thought it was pretty neat.

If you need a camera to back up a bug you should have your license revoked. Heaven forbid you rent a moving truck or pull a trailer.

I would agree that a back up camera on a bug seems a little overkill... But none the less it is a neat idea.

I'd classify this as neat, but not necessary. Like
Power windows
Rear disc brakes
Power ragtop

Oh, wait. I did all of the above, at some point. Embarassed

Ahh. That's still pretty cool though.

Could be done on a Beetle body cabriolet using power cylinders from an early (1950s) American car. Some of the cylinders used to raise the fabric roof look like a hydraulic unit but they were an Acme screw driven by a 6V or12V motor similar to a fan motor. I worked on a 1951 Studebaker Champion convertible back around 1972 replacing the flexible drive cables for the top mechanism. Cables were resembled speedo cables except they could be driven clockwise and counterclockwise without unwinding the wire strands.
May be able to find pictures online from the Studebaker Shop manual for 1951.

I installed a Tadi Brothers system in my vert 5 or so years ago. The top makes rear vision a bit difficult. I purchased a license plate mount camera and the remote set up so I didn't have to run any wires from front to back. Works very well.

Do you have any unexpired links to the camera you purchased and maybe the viewing screen? I want to do the rear facing camera to see around the blind spots and get a more panoramic view of what is going on behind me.

This is very similar to the model I purchased.

Just wired it into the reverse lights and I used the behind the license plate camera. Everything just sits under the engine lid.

Used double sided tape and stuck the monitor to the left side of the speedometer.

When going through the selections, make sure to select the wireless option.

VW Convertible Mirror. Purists will absolutely hate this, but I did this about 20 years ago and it adds safety, as now I can see small cars directly behind me. When the top is up, I store this mirror in the trunk.

I have seen others use that mirror also.

If I have the top down on my vert, when backing, I can see just fine. It is when the top is up and I have difficulty seeing everything when backing. The large C pillar makes for some very nice blind spots.

I haven't, but likely they borrowed the idea from my past posts.

So can I. Unless a kid is behind me. Or a dwarf. Or someone in a wheelchair. Or someone in a Mini, etc.
