Is there really a difference?
I am pretty sure I've got a generator one hooked up on my engine, but it has an alternator.

Over the years various manufacturers have made fuel pumps to various specifications.
Originally, when VW introduced the alternator, the fuel pump was angled over to the side to allow its removal with the alternator in place. They redesigned the pump for a shorter push rod.
Aftermarket pumps may have that same "angled over" design but NOT requiring the shorter push rod.
Also, you can use a Generator style fuel pump along with an alternator, but you won't be able to remove it with the alternator in place.

Yep there is a difference in the pumps. Its all about the push rod length as well. Just have to make sure the rod matches the pump installed. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.
Numbers Matching VW's are getting harder to find. Source out the most Stock vehicle and keep that way. You will be glad you did.
