I just about ready to put a 67 back together that I bought in parts. I would like a new firewall kit probably from Chris V, but I don't want to drop the $ at this time (gonna drop the motor for a full rebuild in two years). Has anyone made their own firewall kit? I read a post regarding layered 30lbs felt from a big box, but there wasn't much explanation. Does anyone have any input or ideas? |

I put sound deadener /insulation on the INSIDE of the firewall .
For the engine compartment make a paper pattern ; you can cut three pieces of rolled roofing and glue them together with roof tar... Be careful that you use only full pieces . You don't want anything breaking off and getting pulled into the fan .

If you want to make your own firewall insulation panels here's a tip;
The best material I have seen is a product called Dibiten.
It's a roofing membrane that comes in a roll, is equal to the thickness and quality of the OE engine compartment insulation.
If you can get it somewhere, it's what you want.
Need to get the ''smooth both sides''. Not ''granulated one side''.
It's heavy, thick and stiff, pretty much resembles the original.
Google Images for Dibiten. |
