Agreed!
I think he got off pretty light, all things considered. I wonder what his sentence would have looked like, on this side of the pond? |

I blame the insurance companies in the UK, they really do ask for it. Mine has agreed value of £25k but there is no way I'd get that selling so I'd be £10k better off burning it and claiming. They'd rather just put up the insurance cost, we all pay for their disinterest.
There are no end of late cars registered as early to avoid some yearly road tax in the UK Ringers everywhere. Call the cops and all they do is check the stolen register. Call the insurance and you get the same response - not reported stolen. Well of course it isn't, the ID came from a scrapper! Nobody cares, I'm surprised even this idiot was caught, for every one that is, 99 get away with such scams. Quite a few people have offered to burn mine for free, they say do it in a busy place, back roads out of the way is too obvious. It's so, so common. Not right but accepted behaviour for a large proportion of our population. |

I would too - our judicial system is pathetic. The sentences are too soft. _________________ I only went to look at it!

Zed, sounds like you have considering burning your bay. Why would you want to be a criminal? Sooner or later karma sneaks up on everyone when something like that is done. Maybe I am just old fashioned but my heart would never put something like that on fellow citizens. _________________

Although I tried accidentally burning my bay, and for a short while I was more worried about setting fire to other parked vehicles than the bus itself, once I realised the fire was staying small and I could put it out, I did so. :/
The thing about registering a vehicle as older than it really is in the UK, is that a part of that is legal - the permanent registration plate can be older than the vehicle but not newer -
So if I could find for sale and buy the registration I could e.g. decide to buy
"73 VW" which probably dates from somewhere in the early years of the 20th century. Registration documents would say 1975, VW birth cert says 1973 and the registration plate might imply 1920 ..
Finding a cheaper registration I might decide to legally buy VW 211 E and register with that or something else from 1968 for instance then claim its an Early Bay...
But I could not legally fit it with a later registration plate. _________________ Ancient vehicles and vessels
