|
|
So I recently put a rebuilt engine into the 69 bug. It's running good, but I can definately tell the difference since the old engine used to have a power pulley on it. I talked to my local vw mechanic before I went ahead with this project, and he recommended that I get a stock pulley to make sure the engine doesn't run hot.
Now I have run pulleys on my mustang before, and they barely (stress barely) raised the temp on the engine. But for aircooled, I am wondering if it is much of a difference in temp between stock and power pulleys.
Do the benefits outway the negatives? And yes, I have all of my engine tin.
Thanks

Its all in the shroud... with every system we ran I noticed a 20 degree temp increase for every time we slowed the fan down by 20%. _________________ Jake Raby

Actually auslander, I was talking about undersized power pulleys. That article did answer some questions though.
Jake-I'm assuming those test you did were on alot of different engine combos, from completely stock shroud/engine, to your type IV's with the DTM shroud assemblies. How much effect does 20degrees hotter have on the engine and oil? I can see already I probably don't want to put a power pulley on this engine, but also want to get some more info.
Again, this is completely bone stock engine. Right down to the tin.
Thanks

It was the same engine with 13 different cooling systems tested on it with no tuning between rounds....
A stock engine is one of the hottest things on the planet, keep that drive at 1.58:1 (stock) _________________ Jake Raby
