Im thinking about making my tin top a camper pop-top. Anyone ever do this? Am I crazy? I see there are different types of tents that go on top and have no idea which is better or worse. Don't really now how im going to cut off the top either......... Any ideas?

yes it can be done (my '77is a tintop conversion done in the late 70s/early80s by ASI now with a late westy top), but long story short:

you're uncapping a huge can of worms and a true (late) 'poptop' westy had a specialized top in it for structural support. It wasn't just cutting a hole in the roof and slapping a tent and fiberglass lid on the top. early ones were done on sunroof buses (which are arguably more valuable than a hacked camper -- so don't go converting one of those!)

for the time and effort, most people would agree you're better off just bying a poptop and starting from scratch.
