Strange number on the bulkhead

We stripped off the paint on the bulkhead and now see what looks like a 216 just below where the mcode plate is attached. You can see the screw holes for the plate.

It was original paint that we removed so this must have been on the panel before it was painted or primed.

Oddly this is on a 1963 DC so not a model number, but it does have a 1500 1-ton package.

Any one ever seen something similar?
