Doing a ground up restore on an El Lobo. 67ish frame. The shortening was a hack job and is going to the welder this week. The plan is to totally redo the frame in to a ladder frame and use polished diamond plate for the floor pans. Wifes idea and we all know...happy wife, happy life.
Anyway, don't want the rear brake line laying in the floor. I've heard the don'ts about running it in the tunnel. But what if I run it under the floor THROUGH the ladder frame? I'll make sure there's no metal to metal contact with grommets or something. It'll be exposed underneath between the braces but I'm interested in what you guys that have done several of these think about my idea?
Thanks,
<><

I would not place it in any way it could possible get pinched or broken from any road hazard....
To protect lines I have taken a 2 inch length of fuel hose, slit it length wise and put it around brake line as a "insulator" and used either zip ties or metal clamps to secure it....
Metal to metal is ok, look at VW pans, as long as the is no movement to wear lines thin.......

| Thanks Dale. I can do that no problem. Is there any way to run it through the tunnel safely? |

You can probably do it and use some spray can foam to hold it in place with grommets on entry and exit...BUT if its in tunnel and it fails you will not know it as you probably will never see a leak and all at once you press brake pedal and nothing........ Preferable to keep it in open and able to visually inspect occasionally....

| +1 with Dale. I have also used the rubber hose (or two or three thicknesses) as a grommet. If I am making the hole it goes thru, and don't want to make it big enough for a zip tie plus hose, (typically) I use safety wire and wire it to the steel line. I have a cute little tool that uses stainless steel wire instead of hose clamps for connections. It's very cool once you master it. Sweet looking too. www.Clamptitetools.com #CLT01 |

My sandrail has the lines run under the floor. Its never been an issue. I can see it being one if you play on rocks. Ive drug my floor through sand very often and hard pack dirt occasionally.
If you have a dual circuit master and front brakes i wouldnt worry about it being under the car. If you dont you need to be more carefull placing it. |

Plenty of places to run them under the car. I used insulated metal clips to hold them to the floor. Modern day cars have them under the chassis.
Like SamT said..if you are going rock climbing that's one thing. |
