Rebuilding the carb on my 68, has a 73 engine. The carb is a Solex H30/31 PICT.
The accelerator valve (that's what ivevheard it called) is crimped in on the end. From the pics and videos I've seen this end looks open.
1. Am I right that this is messed up?
2. Why would anyone restrict the fuel flow like this?
3. Best place to buy one, haven't found it sold individually on some of the normal sites.
Thanks for any help or info.

that is just how that style is made. as long as it is not plugged, it'll work fine. _________________ Rick

That's good news thanks. I was 50/50 on if it was messed up or not because of the way it is crimped (3 points). I just couldn't figure out why someone would crimp it and why they would do it that way.
Thanks for the good news, I have parts soaking right now and will get it back together tomorrow or Sunday. |

The accelerator pump doesn't need to squirt a large volume of fuel but it needs to quickly get into the intake. Also, if it can be atomized as it does so it helps. The crimp is meant to narrow the stream (similar to when you place you thumb over the end of a garden hose) and focus it into the throttle opening to get it into the airflow.
Some carbs in very good shape will spray the fuel into a fine mist as you step on the pedal. You cannot even see the stream... just a fog of fuel. _________________ AshMan40
