I was wondering if anybody has tried putting a old bug body on a newer beetle frame. The 1998 and on beetles are pretty cheap now. Any ideas if the frame would have to be altered. i would probably try to modify an old bug body to fit the frame. If you have any insight into this, it be great . Not lookin for Naysayers/purist comments just anybody who would have some solid ideas /insight into a project like this.
Thanks!

I used to own a '71 Super Beetle and I still own an '02 Golf. Both were surprisingly close in overall length, but nowhere near the same in wheel base.
The Super has a longer wheel base than a standard Beetle, and the '98 New Beetle is based on a Golf platform. Therefore, making one fit the other would require some mad modification skills (and that's without comparing width).
B u t ... I once saw a mid-1980's Cabriolet built with a huge front trunk and an air-cooled engine in the rear. I can't imagine the man-hours that went into making that thing, but it was one of the more impressive things I had ever seen. _________________ Now: 2003 New Beetle Turbo S / 1990 Single Cab Transporter / 2014 Tiguan R-Line 4motion / 2013 Tiguan S / 2002 Golf GLS TDI

Well seeing that there is no frame under a new beetle (unibody)- you would have to fabricate one an attach all suspension, drivetrain and then set the body on. And that doesnt factor in making the interior work.
That being said - I saw a mid 60s Corvair body merged with an an early 80s Camaro and it looked great. _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone - 63 Short pan,1914.

You'd need to keep most of the new beetle as your structure since they don't have a chassis and just remove the body panels. Then you would need to take the old beetle fenders, doors and body skins and try to mount them to the new beetle structure. They probably wouldn't fit real well. |

It would be a hack of biblical proportions.
New Beetles are BIG cars compared to a classic Beetle.
You might as well build a VW Beetle. _________________ Good Luck

Does the newer style VW bug engine match up in the older style Manx Buggy chassis? |

Thank you everybody for the replies. I am going to do a bunch more VIN research and post pictures answering all the questions above. I’m ok with it being a ‘frankenbeetle’ |

I saw this car last summer, it is sitting on a Golf frame, water-cooled engine, etc. Unfortunately I don't know much about the car, other than I think, with the right skills, it can be done and look good:
