Hi there everyone!
I've got a helper for the next few days and really wanted to get the body mated to the pan but a few parts are on backorder from my normal online stores. The part I really want that I can't get is the rear body to engine seal. I don't want to have to drop the engine to put the seal or have to jack up the body to get that seal on and I have had bad luck trying to get that seal on with the engine in.
Anyone know of any shops within an hour or so of where GA, TN and NC meet?

Do you mean the rear engine compartment seal? it's usually not difficult to put in with the engine installed. remove the rear engine tin, slide the seal in along the sides, fit it into the rear "U" channel after that, then reinstall the rear engine tin.
anyway, if monkeynut is within one hour of the ga/tn/nc border is, i'd like to see how (besides airlift or airplane).
Presuming the op wants to drive somewhere to pick up the part rather than waiting for shipping.
there is a place outside of Franklin, NC that has a lot of VW's parked around it. i have NO idea as to what they have in stock, NO affiliation, no experience with them. i've only driven past it a few times. Franklin Foreign Automotive (828) 369-6111 might be worth a call? |

Hi there guys and thanks a bunch for the help!
Charlotte is a 9 hour round trip for me so that's out. A local gent suggested Whitey in Fletcher but no answer when I called. I guess we now know why !
I think I even found receipts for Franklin Foreign Auto when I picked this car up. I'll give them a call and see if he can help me out.
Thanks very much for all the suggestions, I really appreciate it! _________________ Zippy the Wonderbug's achingly slow meandering toward roadworthiness |

Thanks a bunch for your help and suggestions, guys. Unfortunately, the window for getting it in time to have someone help me mate the body to the pan has come and gone. JBugs shipped one 2-3 day and it's only been 5 since I ordered it so I figure I should be seeing it some time this week. _________________ Zippy the Wonderbug's achingly slow meandering toward roadworthiness |
