I am in the process of building a 1641 SP engine for my 1200 pound trike. It just occurred to me I am not sure what to use for the carb. The motor is going to be all stock except for the oversize piston set. But when I looked in my box of parts I have only the original manifold and PICT 30 carb. My question is this going to be enough carb for this motor? Can it be rejetted to work? If not what would be a good replacement set up? It doesn't need to be a rocket just a good running reliable trike. Thanks John |

John,
What is the base flange number on that carb if it's an original VW, Solex carb?
If it's a base flange number of 125-1, it would work fine. It has a power fuel system in it.
The number is stamped on VW solex carb at the very base of the carb. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

That carb will work fine. It's a 1968 beetle carb. What distributor do you have? _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

I bought a new Petronix 009/050 vac from Appletree auto. Do I need to do any rejetting to the carb? I have no Idea of the condition I am wondering if I should send it to Tim at VolkzBitz for rebuilding just to be safe |

If you're not familiar w/rebuilding those Solex carbs, sending it to Tim would be a great idea. Let him know about your engine size and distributor and he'll jet it accordingly.
Now, you might do some reading about that Petronix distributor. Many folks report they are not very good at all. A nice distributor for your application and trike would be an original Bosch 113905205T distributor. It's vacuum only. It's vacuum signal is matched to the Solex 30-2 carb. That carb/distributor combo is what was on my 69 bug when new. Both my carb and distributor have been rebuilt and they work beautifully.
There's folks selling refurbished 205T distributors in the classifieds on this site for $50-80 dollars. The quality of them is vastly better than that Chinese Petronix. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]
