| I have some GT parts in our 4 speed. Very pleased with the quality. At the time they were working on a limited slip which would have been my choice, but they were not ready yet. Went with the Peloquin. They both seem to be doing similar action. I don't think you can go wrong with either part. |

Both would be top-quality items.
I’ve never seen any differences published between the two.
They could have different angles on the worms, which could affect the “Lock-bias”.
I think calling it Torque-Bias is wishful thinking, or .... marketing to tie it to Torsen® TBDs which are very high-end, expensive. Weddle and GoWesty started calling it a TBD years ago.
Mr Peloquin doesn’t call it a TBD.
I don’t see how the mechanism offers Torque-Bias. Torsen® worms are on a shaft, it can deliver torque across to the other axle. TrueTrac® worms are in (friction) pockets in the carrier, which binds the two axles together. Its a different mechanism, much more like a plate-type LSD.
Then, in-use, the behavior is more "stick-slip". More LSD than TBD. It drives both axles together (spool) then opens, to let one go, then sticks together (spool) again.
Incrementally stick-slipping itw way around the turn, while under torque.
If just coasting around a turn; I bet its the same as an open diff.
But then, after years of marketing, well the TBD name stuck in the VW crowd.
They’re actually almost exactly… an Eaton / Detroit TruTrac if anyone wants a realistic trade-name.
Perhaps intentionally avoiding a names like "Detroit"
Link
Eaton does show a diagram of “the bias”. I bet it too is more marketing than reality.
When you see a video of one working it doesn't look like "the graph".
But thats really here-nor-there. Its definitely “less open” than an open diff thus will noticeably increase your traction.
But if you lift a wheel it goes “wide open”.
I have one in the front of my Syncro and even when I know it’s “limiting the slip” ….. I don’t feel anything different on the steering wheel. _________________

We’ve had two Peloquins on two vans, both have been great and with no issues.
But if adding one again, I’d give Paul’s Guard Transmission more business because of several important, hard-earned reasons…
1. He has an impressive racing background, and from my lifetime of experience in that realm it teaches understanding of parts stressors and material limits like no other work experience ever could
2. The GT gears we’ve bought have been great, and at only a slight upcharge over lesser parts I’ve read others having issues with
3. He spends much time and effort posting here, and even in cases where only done to genuinely help others and for no financial gain to himself
4. Paul’s a genuinely nice guy who has helped members here in substantial ways, if not mostly just behind the scenes and again at no self-benefit
5. He has an ego-free sense of business acumen, and a genuine appreciation for customers that make his business possible — and thriving from it
For the Record, I have no affiliation nor have had any financial benefits from my support of GT. My interest is only in spreading the word to fellow Bussers, whether positively or negatively, about suppliers whose interests of quality and integrity match my own. _________________ "Adding power makes you faster on the straights.

Too bad Wavetrac doesn't make a diff for our vans. I put one in my TDI Jetta and it works great - especially on snow & ice. Really digs in and grabs with proper winter tires. I did a lot of research on this. Peloquin did not have stock (for my Jetta with an 02M trans). Quaife and Kaaz were also options.

It's pretty much a snowcat now...Of course I put a $7000 Bora six speed trans + LSD in a $1500 car
When I rebuilt my Syncro trans, the GT Gears diff wasn't available. I would have bought one. I did get his gears & 3-4 hub. Next time... |
