Hi Folks, Anyone seen a "high top" roof like this before?
This is my 1970 Bay RHD campervan, she lives in the South West of England.

Cheers.

There’s a few knocking about here in the UK.

Safare conversion I believe.

We have a few over on www.thelatebay.com

That's not a Safare, it looks like a factory commercial high top from VW, but those recessed windows are really odd. Maybe they were installed by someone with fiberglass skills?

Thank you both so much.
When I bought it I was told it was VW factory fitted and rather rare.
That VW brochure picture is a spot on match to the roof, as you suggest perhaps the louvre windows were added later by someone with a nice tough for such things. The extra windows are great, whilst you're stood inside (it's actually high enough to stand in!) you can see what's going on outside.

Many thanks, cheers!

Very interesting. It is definitely the factory roof high-top, but, yes, those windows, which seem to be rather countersunk...

If you look very closely at the fiberglass around the windows, is there any sign of someone adding them later? If not, is there a possibility that the high top was available with windows in it as an option? I've never seen that IRL or in a brochure. Now you've got me curious... Think

I doubt it, the windows look like camper parts, a commercial would have to comply with different rules and the windows would be more similar to the ones in the rest of the bus. My money is on a well done aftermarket modification, if you are good at fiberglass and do it all the time something like that would be quite easy.
