I'm looking for some information regarding the AUX Battery Install Kit in a NON Westy Van. If anyone has any pictures they could please send me ([email protected]) of their setup and how they connected everything? I am working with a van that had an auxiliary setup in the past but was removed. I'm only looking for individuals who installed the Gowesty Kit in a non Westy Van. My search Fu is weak, but I attempted to look for images of this setup in a passenger van and came up short.
Thanks |

A Blue Seas or Surepower battery separator would be a much better direction and would ensure the aux battery actually received proper charge. _________________ Karl Mullendore

The GW kit is what I started with, in my syncro tintop 7 passenger.
Its a good kit the wiring video is helpful and it got me started with the aux battery under the drivers seat.
that said..it is problematic, my solenoid failed within six months, the blue wire splice in is a pain.the wire size is too small for a good charge.
Result is.. I dumped most of the GW kit, and bought a Yandina C100, upgraded the supply wiring size, and have been trouble free and fully charged ever since.
The Yandina does not need a trigger wire and provides more options for combining the batteries.
If you mount the yandina in the passenger side bat box and run the supplied wire to the drivers side by going thru the boot and under the van, You can keep the supplied wire and your warranty.
I can take pics tomorrow, if needed |

Goffoz, please post pictures or send them to me. I'm a little out of my element with this install and I could use all the help I can get. Thanks for the feedback, I may be going that route soon, do you run a fuse panel as well? |

Heres a pic of the main battery, with the yandina.
I pulled the positive cover so you can see the connections, the block with the two red boots is a resetting breaker 30amp.it supplies the aux bat.
The way to get a clean install is to source a used main battery wiring harness then you can used the stock boot and cable sheathing.
The cleaner sheath is the new one, you need to drill about a 1" hole just forward of the original, easiest to do for under the van.
The yandina required cable length is perfect going this way.
And this is where it enters the drivers side box, again stock grommet from a parts van.
And this is under the drivers seat, thats the GW batttery still there and doing fine, when needed I'll upgrade, the blue and yellow wires and bolt heads are remnants of the GW kit, I left them for future possible use.
My van is a 86 , so the supply wire from the aux is fused goes to the
bottom terminal on fuse 3, this makes it so all the interior accessories ,lights stereo etc. are on the aux and still work with the key off.
The aux battery positive cable is in a vw sheath and under the drivers seat and floor carpet and up under the dash to the fuse panel, easy run no drilling required
There are a few aux battery threads on this site, people much smarter than me, This has been the perfect set up for me , tintop camping,I have at least 4 nights/ days of interior lighting and tunes..and no worries about starting |

Thanks for the pictures goffoz, I think I am going to have to go this route. I installed the Gowesty kit per instructions and now I have no ignition at all (won't start), no headlights, indicators, wipers, etc. Im trying to chase down what I could have done. |

The blue wire at the alternator maybe corroded/broken,(seach blue wire) check clean, reconnect.
Also depending which year your van is, its very easy to cut the wrong wire per the GW instructions.
that would explain the no headlights
...double check what you did behind the fuse panel...reverse it and see what the result is...make sure you disconnect the battery grounds(both) first.
check the fuses, if you cut the wrong wire you probably popped the main power fuse at the panel
this is no fun.
sorry |

Anyone have copies of the instructions they send with this kit? I think one of the PO's used this kit but I'm having some issues and would like to see the instructions to assist in troubleshooting. |

The GoWesty instructions have changed significantly over the years. Trying to reverse engineer using the wrong set of instructions will be far worse than trying to troubleshoot the system with a test light or multimeter. If you can post what the problem is, we can probably tell you where to look for a solution. _________________ Jay Brown
