Can anyone tell me whether the single port cylinder tins on a 1970 bus have these air vanes in them?

They should, VW put them in everything, only EMPI thought they weren't necessary.

Logic tells me they should, but I am being told that they were just on the dual port cylinder tins. I looked at all the tins in the classifieds and think that might be correct, although busses or the 1970 SP might have been different than earlier models. Does anyone have a 68-70 SP bus cylinder tin the can look at to verify this?

I have a single port from a 69 apart. I am pretty sure it is stock and I can't find anything that resembles vanes on the tins that cover the cylinder heads. If you need a pic, I can post one up in the morning.

I'm going to go look too, I'm starting to second guess my original answer.

I've never seen them...

With the dual-port heads flowing more cool intake charge, VW diverted cooling air to the exhaust valve sections of the heads where it was needed. Since the single port head has more physical "meat" around the intake valve area, I personally think that the stark difference in temperature between the intake and exhaust valve was far less localized, thus not needing the vanes.

But I'm 1 for 1 in dropping valve seats on dual port engines WITHOUT the vanes.... Maybe I overthink it.

My stash of OG SP tin is buried so I'll defer to Robbie who's been under the shroud of a SP more than me lately, too much DP action apparently. Damn, getting old sucks Surprised

Out of curiosity, I just looked at my stash of original German single port cylinder tin. They don't have the vanes in them like the dual port ones.
