I can't see getting this harness out through the holes and channels in order to save it. Although I try not to destroy parts during disassembly, the body is already off the chassis and I will be replacing the wiring harness.
My plan is to cut the old one out… But always need a common sense check before doing something like this…
Thanks,
Matt

If it went in, it will come out.
The plastic loom cover will be hard but you can muscle it out. Or you can just cut off the loom cover and save the wires. I always try to salvage the harness as intact as possible, cut off the plastic cover and save the wires individually. Then I can build my own harness using factory wires with appropriate colouring.
When pulling the harness you may have to pull the bulk of the wiring through a body grommet and then pull individual wires and spade connectors through instead of trying to pull al the ends through at once.

You want to use the old harness to fish in the new one or you will have a hard time feeding the new one in without it. _________________ It's not about the window, it's about the people.

Wouldn't electricians fish tape work just as well, maybe a little better ? _________________ ----------------------

Mine came out and went back in without much trouble. It just take a lot of patience. Water based lube helps a lot (for me spit). I'm not sure a fish tape would help much in this case. Just need flexible/long arms and do a lot of it by feel.
A before and after with the same harness.

Early cars had the harness run through a tube in the passenger side rocker. with a 90° bend up to trunk. So best to have a lead to pull it through.Later cars are easy so don't worry about it.
Here is a good tip. When you are ready to replace the harness , add another 4 or 5 wires from recycled from your old harness and tape them to the new. That way when you want to add a tach or other gauges/switches in the future you are ready to roll |
