Ok I'll duplicate it but it would be Indian red for '67 so if it should be there I'll put it there.

EDIT: Changed name of interior color

Shocked Shocked wow stale air! That is amazing! Thanks for posting that! I've never seen a blank one other than the reproduction on eBay. It's incredible that it is in perfect condition after 50 years!

Just an FYI that the charts say Indian Red, not India Red

All right guys, here's my reproduction of the dealer installed window sticker.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I think it came out pretty good. its not exact and it isnt perfect, but it is good for my first attempt. I'm going to try and use stale airs one and try to get the words and black borders onto a piece of paper without the yellow. this one took about 3 hours between redoing all of the black, the letters, and i had to remake the VW logo from the center of it.

How did you print the info onto it? Typewriter, or like on a word program, etc?

Look for a typeface called "chainprinter" to match the look of the computer-printed portions of the sticker. Originally, this information was printed on an old high-speed band or line printer in all caps; this font simulates it very well.

Next, the dealer-added information was using a typewriter font.

You can see the difference in the original window stickers.

If you use a PC and get the fonts, you can print on blank paper, and hold it up to a light with the blank form, and tweak the alignments and spacing until it will fit perfectly.

Hey guys! I'm coming back to this project as it's getting cold and I have no garage, and I'll only be able to work on weekends soon so little things I can do inside are better. Everett, you gave me the measurements, where those with the borders, or without? By borders I mean outside of the black lines.

The one I posted here has the exact measurements listed:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=8201053#8201053

The size is for exactly what you see scanned there

I can't speak to other ones, maybe the ones with the sticky edges on the sides are a little wider?
I looked at a couple I had kicking around and they are not 8" wide like the one above. They do not have the black edges intact either. They look like they could have been trimmed so I don't know the original widths.

Note there is a date printed in the black area at the top. Some scans make it hard to see, but it's there.

Here is one Everett posted that makes it clear:

I found another one that is intact with the stick-on edges in my pile of stuff.

This one from IL on the site:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Note: This scan has the edges folded over

The total width is 9.5".
Inside width, the width of the center "box" is 8" as described above.
Height is the same 7"

Good catch by KtPhil on the really dark characters in the black Volkswagen area at the top.
This one has those too, it says:
23 Sept 63 4101

allright so in total with the edges unfolded 9.5x7.
I'm assuming that the date is when it was sold, so I'll stamp mine in... August 31,1967.

That is unlikely, since the sticker is printed long before it is on the dealer's lot to be shown and sold. It may be simply when the sticker was printed, and perhaps a serial number of those printed on that day. The date may be a "printed on date" or perhaps a "planned ship date" since the distributor is known at the time of printing. It appears that the destination dealer is known on some (computer printed) and not in others (typewritten), so the top date must before the final dealer is determined, and hence before the sale.

You could do a little math on those stickers posted here, where you can read the number. If they are all less than a month's production, that would suggest it is a serial number for that month's sticker printing. Then look at your VIN to guess a build date, and figure the sticker was printed somewhere between that and your sale date, and fudge it accordingly.

That sounds like a good plan. My Birth Certificate is supposed to come this month or next so I will find out when it was made.

Back at this again... the black letters on the top, I can say with almost %100 certainty is the build date. 115979xxx is the last day of production for July 1965 and this one is stamped July 30 1965 so we can assume it was the build date of the car.
