Holy shit... has it really been 60 years? I was just a little guy but I remember this like it was yesterday. It was such a brilliantly beautiful Fall day in NYC... that seemed to go very very dark very very fast. Crying or Very sad Thanksgiving sorta sucked that year.

Our softball league did not cancel games the evening of September 11, 2001 (Arizona). After the doubleheader, we were sitting around having a beer and I told my teammates that they'd remember this day, just like they remember Nov. 22, 1963. Then I was reminded that my 9 teammates were not old enough to remember that day....

I saw John Kennedy in person riding in a motorcade from Wheeling to Pittsburgh, believe in 1962. That was also an open convertible; I was selling peanut brittle door-to-door that afternoon and I wandered to the main road to see this.

Several years ago my wife and I made a bucket list task of visiting the Arizona Memorial. All sorts of unlikely issues got miraculously resolved so that we made it (cancelled tickets, closed due to repairs, mixups, etc). But it happened.

It was on my list because this event sent my dad into war, and his service affected his life, and later ours, in so many ways most personally. And of course, our country's role in the world changed from then on.

Once I stepped aboard, and saw the list of names in stone, I started crying for no particular reason. So many around me were, too. I still tear up just thinking about it.

If you get the chance, do not miss it.

Semper Fi, Dad. And so many, many more.

Similar with my dad, was in the Army Air Corps, and was on the European continent.

He never talked about what he did, and only after his death did we know he was a sergeant.

Dec. 11, 1941. Adolf declares war on USA.

USA had declared war only on Japan on Dec. 8, 1941.

Before Dec. 7, 1941: most Americans wanted to stay out of the war. By Dec. 8, 1941, most Americans almost all Americans favored war.

LOved her stuff, and always respected her for 'Hell is for Children' - not a popular song career wise, but she used her talent to call out child abuse.

15 years ago today…

“Cactus 1549, turn right for Runway 4 Teterboro.”

“ Unable. we are going to be in the Hudson”

Listening to the ATC and cockpit VCR gives me great comfort when I fly out of any port but especiallyLGA

Fun fact, Jeff Skiles , the co-pilot , had type certified on the A320 the previous Friday. That’s training.
