I am getting ready to cut the openings for the Westfalia inlets. It would be very useful to have some sort of template with the dimensions....is there anything online I can use?
thank you very much

There is a westy dimensions thread, I don't if that would be in there.
I took photos from my donor. These might be better than nothing.
Be careful not to overcut the inside squares. I almost cut my squares too big and the screw holes are pretty close to the edge of the holes. Also you definitely need to put some sealer or paint the cut outs and screw holes or they will start to rust right away. |

Thinking outside the box: When I had my Westy painted, I had them fill in the holes for the outlets because:
I converted to a compressor fridge,
I never use city water, and
I can fill the water tank from inside.
That left AC, and the shop suggested running a pigtail from the breaker to the rear license plate which I did. I've considered installing the electrical outlet next to the rear tail light, but I have found not cutting a hole in the sheet metal easier than doing so. Without the holes in the side, I don't worry about water ingress that I can't see. Works for me. _________________ '87 faux-Syncro Westy w/ 2.3l GoWesty WBX |

This is probably the best you can get from the internet. Courtesy of GoWesty through an e-mail exchange I was having with them.

thank you very much - this is very helpful.
I did consider not putting any of these but I do prefer the Westy look over the Weekender...just personal preference.
That said, I am not putting the fridge outlet as I am running an Engel fridge. |

Here are my dimensions when I pulled the kitchen to remove the insulation. The photo is a little faint, I hope you can read it.

I know someone already pointed this out but IMHO you are better off without the utility holes in the side of the van.
Filling up the tank from the inside is actually easy once you do it a few times. The power inlet can be put almost anywhere.
I never felt comfortable hooking shore water pressure up to the van.
Most importantly those holes are prime source of rust. Almost every westy out there has rust around those holes and at the sill plate below.
Again just my 2 cents. |
