Hellooo!
My 71 duel port FB has been stored in an open barn for some time, and started with no problems (newly rebuilt engine, 2-year-old starter motor, and brand new battery as of a few days ago)
Drove it a bit (for 10mins down some very bumpy gravel roads), and it stalled when I got to my destination - but then it would not turn over - so nothing from the starter motor. (lights on dash, everything as per normal) The battery is still fully charged, and nothing has come loose cable-wise around the battery and engine from what i could see, I'm thinking corrosion somewhere as the car has been stored over a wet NZ winter in a barn.
The starter motor has been fine for years, as it was replaced 3 years ago, maybe the solenoid is sticking, again with corrosion.... i took the automatic panel off to check a few things and noticed a random loose brown wire, (see image below) - grounding wire of sorts, who knows...
If anyone has any more places I should check/troubleshoot, please let me know...

As you know, the '71 automatic must be in neutral to crank the engine.
There are several wires there... some for the start interlock, some to light the indicator.
The brown wire should go to a local ground. The start power goes through thick black and red wires as shown.
The spring contacts in the switch get worn and gunked up, so a careful removal, bending, cleaning and deburring may fix things. The plastic is brittle so this is careful work!
Or replace it:
